Educator Leadership Institute- Coursework and Practicum

 
COURSEWORK


Spring Semester 2009 (Classes. except for school vacations, are on Thursdays, February - May, 4-7:30 PM


• Performance Based School Leadership and Pre-Practicum


July 2009 (Classes are on weekday mornings, 8-12)

• Standards-Based Instruction and Assessment
• Educational Leadership and the Law
• Performance Appraisal and Supervision


Practicum


A nine-month supervised practicum September 2009 through June 2010 is required at the candidate’s school or another school site more appropriate to the candidate’s career aspirations. ELI’s Practicum Supervisor, in collaboration with the Principal or Director/Supervisor at the school site, assumes the mentoring role during the candidate’s practicum.

 


Practicum Seminar


A nine-month, September 2009 through June 2010, bi-weekly seminar meeting Thursdays 4-7:30 PM, except for public and school holidays, is a substantively-based and reflective seminar accompanying the practicum. Topics include, but are not limited to: Major Project Responsibility; Shared Leadership through Delegated Responsibility and Accountability; Equity and High Expectations; Alignment of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment; Readiness for Continual Student Performance Improvement; Recruitment, Mentoring, Supervision, and Evaluation; Special Education and Student Support Services; Parental and Community Relationships; School Improvement Planning; Leadership, etc.
At the completion of the practicum seminar, candidates synthesize their learning and present them to their cohort peers, ELI faculty, and invited practitioners. The presentation anticipates candidates presenting their professional portfolio to prospective employers.

 

Professional Development for ELI Graduates


A monthly seminar for ELI graduates who are practicing principals provides post-graduation professional development.
